Very interesting graphic depicting social media average minutes per visitor. This is a much better metric than number of registered users.
I’m sure Tumblr and Pinterest are rapidly growing in both visitors and time per user since both of the platforms allow for easy content creation and compilation.
Update: californiachillwave makes a good point. Pinterest is catching on fire because it is easier to organize other peoples thoughts into your own profile. In my opinion, Tumblr is a blogging platform so you share content keeping your followers in mind.

Wall Street Journal Verses The Financial Times

I have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal through my school, and I individually subscribe to the Financial Times. Both of the newspapers are widely read and respected by finance professionals. However, I recently decided that I prefer the Financial Times, and are the reasons why.

Table Explained

  • Quality- is important since it makes the newspaper easier to read. Personally, I believe the Financial Times is loaded with more facts and credible sources without extra fluff. The entire category goes to the Financial Times.
  • Readership- FT is known for being more European, and the WSJ more American. Since I am American and will be working in the US, I have weighted the WSJ’s win higher. On a more global scale, FT is more comprehensive.
  • Investment Banking News- The Financial Times gives biographies on each investment bank, and their news accordingly. WSJ has Deal Journal. I personally prefer to read the FT since there is more detailed information on the deals that take place. Ideally, I’d read both sources for IB news. This is a very close category, but I prefer the analytical details and in-depth background FT provides.
  • Market News- FT has Alphaville, a free blog on their website that provides great up to date news. WJS is in a group with Market Watch another source for market news. The X goes to the WSJ since it is US focused and has useful affiliate sources.

Conclusion

Go with the Financial Times newspaper. There are many advantages to the WSJ (i.e. Market Watch, Deal Journal, and US presence), however, most of these are available for free to everyone. Currently, I value my Financial Times subscription more.

Finally, I have an added bonus for my readers. Access the WSJ online, for FREE, here.
