Mobile platforms are the future. HPQ is dropping its PC unit because of pressure felt by decreasing growth rates, Aurora Feint and Zynga have so far successfully capitalized on the $650 million virtual goods market, and an average smartphone user consumes 435MB per month.
I only wondering how I can get involved in this trend. As far as my investment portfolio goes, I am looking at tablet and cellphone chip manufacturers. Since a limited number of suppliers produce hardware for multiple top brands, I think this would be an interesting technology emerging markets play.
Another way to get involved is through an app startup. The only things I need are a developer, capital, time, and an idea. I better get started right away.
